Skein, a poem by Michael Channing

Skein

by Michael Channing

if death is a neat and trim swatch of cloth
suitable to fly from the rigging
or sew into a shirt
dying is the ugly scribble of yarn wasted as you learn to loom
so if we speak on the ending at all
let's snip clean the perfect square
and skip the ragged mess of its making

We Are Sewn Together
