Salaryman, a poem by Michael Channing

Salaryman

by Michael Channing

i often find myself
at the end of my lunch break
announcing out loud
time to head on back home
so i think now it's time
to move into my cubicle

sleeping bag stashed in the bottom drawer
snacks above
free: coffee, wi-fi, office supplies
someone else cleans
bless this home and all
those employed here

they respect me here
ask what i think
worry if i don't show
my boss asked how i was doing
i hated having to lie
but at least she asked

no complaints
never late
always busy
marvel at my dedication

I Guess That's What I Am
