Open a Window

Michael Channing

you didn't leave a mark
you hardly made a splash
you barely registered at all
flick your fire sudden spark
gone to smoke within a flash
no heat no light no loss

take your leave and leave no trace
nothing you've done, said, or made will remain
neither your words or your face or your name
your promise and passion snuffed out like a flame
now open a window and open a vein
this is the only true path into fame...

gone to smoke within a flash. no heat no light no loss

Liner Notes

This would work as a spoken word piece over some ambient sounds and soft percusion. Kind of like that mash-up of Henry Rollins and Nine Inch Nails, one of my favorite things on YouTube.

I don't want to talk about the context of this song. But I will say I imagine it opening with a quote from the film The Devil's Rejects. "I am the devil, and I am here to do the devil's work."
