Of Course

Of Course from Off Course by Michael Channing

and the dogwood petals fall like snow
in the early april mist
no one to please nowhere to go
life will never be as good as this
life will never be as good as this

in three month’s time i'll graduate
and trade in that scroll for a job
a car and a house and a house and a wife
an apartment a car and a wife and a job
the trust of a crowd and the love of their cheers
powerful words into powerful ears
a voice in the say of who comes and who stays
hand on the wheel blood on the page
a stint up in rehab and a stent in my heart
some land to lie down in when i depart

and the dogwood petals fall like snow
in the early april mist
no one to please nowhere to go
life will never be as good as this
life will never be as good as this

Just Ripples in the Pool
