Mute and Move On

by Michael Channing

Mute and Move On from Off Course by Michael Channing

the little voice nibbling
away in the basement
you feel it reverberate
up through the walls
a constant reminder
of long-buried secrets
you hid from yourself
in a language unknown

you wear your bones on the outside
you close your eyes on the inside
your heart fumbles and hums
mute and move on

the warm welcome call
from impossible distance
made near by machines
that know you by name
you smother to silence
fold into darkness
preferring the flavor
of sadness alone

you wear your bones on the outside
you close your eyes on the inside
your heart mumbles and hums
mute and move on

I Swear You Don't Listen to Me
